Different Costumes to Choose From

Because there are so many types of lion costumes, you need to think about what type you are looking for. First, are you shopping for a baby, a child or an adult? If you want a costume for a small child, you will need to ensure you choose something suitable. Babies should not wear anything with tiny buttons or parts which can come off and present a choking hazard. Some costumes are much thicker than others and if Halloween tends to be chilly where you live this can be a bonus, since it will keep your child warm while outdoors trick-or-treating.

There is a wide range of adult lion costumes too, and you can go for a sexy look, a comical look, an arty look, or even combine your own jewelry, accessories and shoes with your costume to come up with something completely unique. Halloween might usually be about witches, ghosts and zombies, but why not introduce some fun in the form of a friendly lion? This would make a non-scary outfit for the kids, or a fun one for yourself.

If you usually recycle the same costumes year after year, throwing a sheet over yourself to make a ghost or dressing in your favorite skeleton outfit or witch costume, then bring the fun back into Halloween this year and get one of these fun lion costumes. Interesting Lion Behavior

If you are going to dress the family up as lions this Halloween, you might like to learn a few lion facts to impress the kids. Did you know, for example, that female lions do between 85 and 90% of the hunting while the males protect the pride and patrol the territory?

Lions like lots of contact while they rest, with plenty of head rubbing, purring, licking and touching, although fighting and arguments often happen when there is food around. The males eat first, then the females, and finally the cubs.

Lions spend up to 20 hours a day asleep and the rest is spent courting, hunting or patrolling their territory. They can roar so loud it can be heard from 5 miles away. A 'pride' (family) of lions usually stays together until the males are killed by other males and then the new males take over.

Nomadic Lions

Young male lions leave their prides when they reach maturity and travel as nomads for a few years before they are strong enough to take over their own pride. Some keep wandering and never join another pride but this is the more difficult option, since they will not have as much time for resting.

The territorial males in a pride are the fathers of the cubs. Lions usually hunt for large prey at night, although they sometimes hunt during the day too. The lions will hunt together, as this yields a better success rate. When doing this, the lions will fan out in a semicircle shape and then stalk their prey. They will then all run at the prey and try to knock one down. They kill it with a bite to the throat or neck and have success about half the time when hunting.
